Our client, an established real estate investment and management firm, whose asset base and headquarters are in New York City, is seeking a Head of Human Resources and Compliance for their organization.  This generalist role manages all aspects of the HR business functions for a growing firm of 500+ employees (ranging from property-level staff to investment professionals), including but not limited to recruiting, onboarding, performance reviews, compensation, benefits, union and labor relations, compliance, training, employee relations, and all other HR functions. The ideal candidate is entrepreneurial, diligent, and is an inherent leader who can work effectively across all levels of a large and diverse organization. In addition, this role will spearhead various company-wide compliance processes and projects

COMPENSATION: 250-550k (TC) plus benefits

Responsibilities of the Head of Human Resources and Compliance:

-Manage and guide the drafting, creation, implementation and periodic updating of HR and compliance processes, policies, manuals, handbooks, training materials, etc.

-Perform an ongoing assessment of HR and compliance needs; anticipate and provide timely solutions on people matters

-Manage the end-to-end process of attracting, on-boarding, and advancing the right talent

-Participate in designing recruitment procedures and implementing them with consistency

-Perform market surveillance, comparative compensation reporting, and similar data-driven analysis

-Plan, direct, and coordinate activities of the organization to maximize the strategic use of human capital by optimizing reporting lines and organizational structure

-Ensure a proactive HR function for overall employee lifecycle including employee relations, compensation, policies, and regulatory compliance

-Assist in identifying training needs and programs with business objectives

-Ensure the company’s workforce has the right size, shape, cost, and agility for the future i.e., succession planning

-Be up to date on employment laws and regulations, as well as other legal requirements regarding people management to ensure compliance

-Manage relationships with labor unions and union representatives, and assist the company in handling various labor and union matters

-Optimize organizational design to increase productivity and improve performance and profitability of the business

-Implement a performance review, reward, and recognition structure to increase bottom-line results and employee engagement

-Work with management and personnel to solve conflicts and help facilitate positive employee relations, maintain a good working environment, build morale, and decrease unwanted turnover


Requirements of the Head of Human Resources and Compliance:

-A completed degree from a 4-year college

-10+ years’ experience in Human Resources

-Experience in a large real estate firm a plus

-Ability to work in a dynamic environment

-Strong problem-solving skills with an ability to think creatively

-Knowledge and/or experience with NYC / NY labor law, and tax and social security regulations

-An ability to empathize and a strong desire to mentor and build relationships

-A good understanding of the many disciplines within HR and compliance, including diversity and inclusion, performance management, compensation and benefits, talent management, and employee relations 

-Good change management and project management capabilities

-Verification of identity, education, prior employment, and references may be required
