CMO, VP of Marketing
CLIENT: Our client is a direct-to-consumer eCommerce brand. They are a venture-funded startup disrupting a massive market long overdue for change.
ROLE: Our client is seeking a CMO / VP of Marketing. In this role, you’ll drive efficient business growth in many different ways. You will launch new products, offers, form factors, and channels. You will also grow customer lifetime value through retention plans (e.g., subscription, membership) and offers. One day you could be working on a new limited edition product launch. The next, testing a new price point or discount offer.
You will immerse yourself in the world of our client’s customers, understanding who they are, how they think, what their needs and wants are, and how to best reach and resonate with them. And you will translate your insights and analysis into changes and additions we can make to drive the business forwards. From product offerings to subscription plans to pricing to advertisement creative to website experience, everything is on the table and will need to evolve.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Customer Acquisitions:
- Identify and create compelling marketing messaging (e.g., value propositions) that will drive customer purchases. Collaborate with the Chief Executive Officer and Head of Content to bring this creative to life.
- Deeply analyze the customer acquisition funnel and understand where and why customers are falling out prior to purchase. Then make changes to mitigate that fall off.
- Test new channels (e.g., TikTok, YouTube) and offers (e.g., Full Season bulk package), utilizing existing content and insights, and adjusting where necessary.
- Develop and execute tentpole event marketing calendar (e.g., new product launch, holiday sales offers), continuously incorporating learnings and refine the plan.
- Collaborate with Product on opportunities to offer new products and / or iterate on form factor or packaging.
Customer Lifetime Value & Retention:
- Create and execute retention strategies by product and cohort / season, including educational content, offers, and engagement tools.
- Collaborate with Operations to deliver exceptional customer service through Marketing-owned platforms (e.g., social media).
- Proactively identify white space opportunities, especially where potential value to customer significantly outweighs cost. Examples could include new educational content / resources or complementary products.
These responsibilities listed only scratch the surface on what you will end up doing. This is an early-stage startup with a small team, so you will be involved in most aspects of the business.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- You ideally have 4-6+ years of experience across consulting, and/or an operator role (marketing function would be ideal, but our client is open to broader roles as well). You are a strong conceptual thinker overflowing with creativity. You are always on the lookout for the next great idea and appreciate that it can come from anywhere.
- You are a strong problem solver and enjoy establishing and refining processes.
- You are highly analytical and enjoy leveraging data to understand the story.
- You are emotionally intelligent and do your best work in teams. You are able to adapt and perform your best work in a number of different environments.

- Our client is based in NYC, and work in person 4 days a week. Their state-of-the-art office is located near Brookfield Place.
- Competitive compensation (Base Range of $150,000 to $200,000) and competitive equity package.
